OUR FIRST HOME

We would like to share the house that sparked my dream of being an INTERIOR DESIGNER.  She was a very small 2 bedroom Victorian Miners cottage located in the quaint country town of Broadford.  It is approx 70km's straight up the Hume Highway from MELBOURNE.   We purchased her in 1995 & sold in 2005, she has a small one bedroom self contained granny flat at the back.

We had to fully gut the house, as there was only 3 out of 56 red gum stumps holding up the house. We recycled as much original building materials as we could when we demolished the inside. We sourced locally & used 2nd hand flooring, windows, doors even a beautiful old bay window that we placed in the lounge room.  I wanted to give this old girl a new lease on life, we found that she was built around the 1930's & the original builders name was written in chalk on the back of the old straw & plaster boards.

I personally love the Victorian Era & with all the fine details, so we did not hold back on this project.  The best feature is my hand painted ceiling panel in the lounge room. I spent over 100 hrs hand painting colour & gold details to the panel before it was hung on the ceiling.  We also used beautiful locally sourced ceiling roses & ornate cornices for the house. We finished off all the rooms with old fashioned brass light switches & power points.  Please enjoy some before & after images from the project.
